Course Description

This ½ day workshop introduces attendees to recognized sources of conflict and conflict handling modes within a team environment, with a specific focus on successfully managing difficult conflict situations. This course can be delivered either virtually or in-person. As a preliminary activity prior to attending the workshop, attendees will complete the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI Assessment).

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify common sources of conflict.

  • Know how conflict is part of a team development lifecycle.

  • Describe conflict-handling modes and the potential benefits of each mode.

  • Learn one’s own conflict-handling habits and preferences.

  • Diagnose effective responses to various conflict scenarios.

  • Distinguish between “normal” and “crucial” conflict.

  • Recognize common behaviors associated with crucial conflict.

  • Develop effective responses to de-escalate conflict.
